With 589 million people worldwide living with diabetes (90% of whom have type 2 diabetes) and that figure projected to rise to 853 million by 2050, diabetes is one of the greatest public health threats of our time. Despite the availability of effective treatments for type 2 diabetes, diabetes prevention remains the only solution to protect health-care systems and economies, and reduce the burden of this chronic non-communicable disease on future generations.

Stepping up to meet this challenge, we are proud to announce The Lancet Summit: shaping the future of diabetes prevention, a multidisciplinary conference on diabetes prevention held in Sitges, Spain (Nov 30 to Dec 2, 2026), hosted by The Lancet Group. World-renowned experts will discuss and debate lessons learned in preventing diabetes and related complications, and the challenges ahead. In addition, there will be symposiums on preventing gestational diabetes and delaying onset and progression of type 1 diabetes.

Of interest to all with a stake in preventing diabetes, including physicians, medical students, fellows, nurses, dieticians, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, psychologists and behavioural therapists, pharmacists, epidemiologists, public health practitioners and researchers, policy makers, and educators, The Lancet Summit offers a unique opportunity to stay up-to-date with the latest advances in diabetes prevention.

Please join us in Sitges in 2026 and be part of shaping the future of diabetes prevention.
