Professor Jean Claude Mbanya is a distinguished endocrinologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon. He founded the Health of Population in Transition Research Group, leading seminal studies on diabetes, hypertension, and obesity in sub-Saharan Africa. As President of the International Diabetes Federation from 2009 to 2012, he advanced global diabetes advocacy and policy. His research has shaped Cameroon’s national NCD strategy and WHO recommendations. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the African Academy of Sciences, he has trained numerous African scientists. Mbanya’s work integrates clinical care, epidemiology, and policy to tackle Africa’s rising non-communicable disease burden.
