Karen Schreiber is a rheumatologist in training and associate professor at the Institute for Health Research in Southern Denmark, Odense University. She is also affiliated to St Thomas’ Hospital in London where she has worked most of her professional career. Karen completed part of her internal medical training in the UK, and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2014 (MRCP).

Karen main clinical and research focusses on improving reproductive health care for patients with rheumatic diseases. Karen is managing the only interventional trial of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in pregnant women with antiphospholipid antibodies to answer the question whether HCQ improves pregnancy outcomes in these women (HYPATIA study, EudraCT 2016-002256-25).

Karen is an active member of several EULAR Task Forces, of the Danish Society for Rheumatic Diseases and of the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) working groups publishing clinical guidelines with the overall aim to improve the treatment of patients with rheumatic diseases. Karen is co-leading the European Reproductive Healthcare and Family Planning interest group (ReHFaP group) alongside Professor Laura Andreoli. Karen has published the first edition of the case based Oxford handbook on how to manage pregnancy patients with rheumatic diseases in 2021 (ISBN: 9780198845096).
