Bingwen Eugene Fan

Dr Bingwen Eugene Fan is a Senior Consultant Haematologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Assistant Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is a Singapore Biodesign Innovation Fellow whose work lies at the intersection of haematology, digital morphology and translational artificial intelligence.

He served as Principal Investigator and clinical lead in the co-development of ASUS Blade, an AI platform for peripheral blood film analysis that received Singapore Health Sciences Authority Class B Software as a Medical Device regulatory approval in 2026. His research spans computer vision for blood-cell detection and classification, morphology-grounded explainable AI, synthetic image generation using generative adversarial networks and diffusion models, and the responsible integration of generative AI into laboratory workflows. He is now extending this work combining whole-slide localisation, cell-level classification, uncertainty estimation and constrained language models to support interpretable and auditable blood cancer diagnostics.

He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Journal of Hematology and is Senior Editor of Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Associate Editor of Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and Annals of Hematology. He is grateful to receive funding from the National Medical Research Council, the National Health Innovation Centre and The Sumitomo Foundation. He has been recognised among the Stanford University–Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists.
