Talk: Sex Disparities in Patients with Systemic Sclerosis

Dr. Sindhu Johnson is a Consultant Rheumatologist, Clinician-Scientist, Director of the Toronto Scleroderma Program, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada. She completed her MD at Memorial University of Newfoundland, followed by postgraduate residency training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Toronto. She completed a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology through the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, at the University of Toronto. She is Associate Director of the Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research Program at the University of Toronto.

Her program of research develops methodologic platforms that combine data-driven and expert-based methods with advanced analytic techniques to define disease states, develop outcome measures, develop guidelines, and study treatment effects. She conducts observational studies and clinical trials of novel therapeutics, all with the goal of improving the lives of people with scleroderma. She has published 200 papers in high impact medical journals, secured $8 million dollars in grant funding and serves on several scientific journal editorial boards. Twenty-five graduate students and international scleroderma fellows have trained with her, many of whom now have academic appointments and established scleroderma clinics in their home countries.
