Nicola Dalbeth, MD, is an academic rheumatologist and professor of medicine at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. As a principal investigator in the Auckland Bone and Joint Research Group she leads a program of research focused on understanding mechanisms of disease and treatment approaches for gout. She has led international initiatives to define central concepts of gout, including nomenclature of disease, outcome measures in clinical trials, and response to treatment. Served as a member of the core oversight team for the 2020 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Gout Management Guidelines and was a steering committee member on the ACR/European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) gout classification project. She has led phase III clinical trials of novel therapeutic agents for gout and has published more than 450 original peer-reviewed articles. She has led both national and international initiatives to improve gout management, particularly focused on advocacy, destigmatisation, education, and development of resources.
