Liona Poon

Professor Liona Poon is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and an Academic Subspecialist in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China, and a Visiting Professor at the Department of Women and Children’s Health, King’s College London, UK. She also serves as a Visiting Professor for several other universities worldwide. She is internationally recognized for her dedication to improving maternal and fetal health and has an extensive research portfolio, with over 350 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and an H-index of 77. For the past 20 years, Professor Poon has focused on developing strategies for the early prediction and prevention of preeclampsia, one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Her pioneering work includes developing a first-trimester prediction model that combines maternal risk factors, ultrasound, blood pressure, and biochemical markers, and establishing aspirin prophylaxis as a preventive measure.

Her vision extends beyond obstetric care: to transform women’s health globally through clinical research, education, and advocacy, ensuring that early screening and prevention become standard practice across the continuum of care. Professor Poon remains dedicated to improving outcomes for women and babies, driving innovation that shapes policy and practice worldwide.
